In level 4, the focus is on extending larger amounts of frequent grammatical structures, on reviewing and expanding structures already learned and on all four languages skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Sophisticated free speech, sophisticated listening comprehension, reading longer texts (newspaper, scientific texts, etc.) and the development of essay writing regarding different text functions are the main foci of the course. The course will prepare students to pass an internationally recognized exam (Test DaF / PNDS / DSH). Therefore, the course will also familiarize students with the format and requirements of these exams.
Listening comprehension will be especially trained with German Videos and TV films.
The teaching method relates to the communicative language teaching approach, which means that the pragmatic usage of the foreign language in a relevant and modern setting is taught. This approach does not only include talking in German but also includes training of academic and problem oriented writing in the foreign language.
All five active and passive language skills are taught: Speaking, Writing, Reading, Listening, and Translating.
The course will be taught only in German with frequent comparison between the English and German language in order to work with positive and negative interferences.
